resonant frequencies is the result of many months of collaboration between lisa b, canadian spoken word poet, and caro snatch, a manchester-based electronic meistress, recording engineer and producer. these two women combined their sensitive ears, feminist sensibilities, mischeviousness, grit and growl to create a unique recording of 12 tracks of spoken word poetry enhanced by electronic music, vocals, and atmospherics, including guest appearances by Jan Wolstenholme (bass guitar) and Liz Summer (clarinet.)
lisa is an accomplished verbal sculptress. her poetry is articulate, passionate, political, occasionally raunchy, and frequently very funny. there is a gentle patience amidst an urgent fire in her which makes for a powerful and accessible performance and message.
for this album, caro snatch recorded lisa’s voice and responded with an experimental, playful and resonant array of accompaniment, including a hummingbird impersonation and a synthetic orchestral arrangement. anorakism seemed the logical platform for the fruit of this very juicy collaboration, as the leeds-based label exists to stand for innovative, experimental and thought-provoking art.
this work manages to be both deep and accessible, challenging and nurturing. you are invited to listen, to vibrate in sympathy, to be moved.
resonant frequencies will be released in Manchester on December 8th 2008 at the nexus cafe on dale st. show at 8pm; admission is free.
